| a guide to college radio and how to remain suckerless | |

from the editor
This thing certainly was a pain in the ass. It took one year to put together, and should have been much more comprehensive. Jen Brown, former MD at CKWR, never submitted her final version of on sexual harassment by way of record promotion. That was a bummer, since she was the first person to submit her initial draft, and I’ve now been waiting nine months to get the final version. Also, it would easily have been the most important topic addressed herein. A second issue will appear only if others start pitching in. I certainly am not going to do all the work. I shouldn’t be doing this in the first place. YOU should be. I’m doing this because there’s an extreme apathy, and nobody is aware of the greater picture. Instead of telling you what that greater picture is, I intend to give you the tools with which to decipher this machine. I, personally, am sick of the feeding-at-the-trough attitude now so prevalent among the majority of college radio stations. This publication is born out of frustration, not admiration. The Name/Logo:
The Contributors:
Marc Snow wrote the Psy Ops piece. Disgusted by the industry, he took off for Germany to pursue his interests in the arts and expand his own body of work. Ben Goldberg wrote Ben Goldberg. A curious title, and I don’t agree with all of the writing. But I am including it to voice different opinions, which the reason for Bubba’s existence. John Clark is MD at CJSF. His station broadcasts on cable throughout the entire Vancouver area, and people actually listen. His comments can be read regularly on rec.music.noncom. How To Bullshit Your Way Into College, was ripped off without permission. It originally appeared in ‘Thora-Zine’, issue #3. P.O. Box 571562, Houston, TX 77257-1562. Doubletalk, was also ripped off without permission. It was authored by Scott Carter of A&M, and originally appeared in ‘Virtuallyalternative’ issue #13, published by The Album Network. I’d appreciate it if neither publication sued me. [Or me. If either publication (or original author) has problems with their stuff being "reprinted" here, please contact me (bubba@rlabels.com) before sending legal paperwork.] If you have something to say, say it at simony@msn.com.
